A modulation wheel is a game aid (controller) of electronic keyboard instruments for controlling various sound parameters.

On keyboards , turning the mod wheel usually causes the onset and intensity of the vibrato . However, other parameters can also be controlled, for example the pitch or the pitch modulation strength of the LFO . Velocity crossfades can also be controlled using the modulation wheel. This enables a more exact replication of the natural playing style of the respectively simulated instruments .

The fixed MIDI controller number 1 is assigned to the modulation wheel .
