Mofers ([ ˈmóːfərs ]) or Mofertaans ([ móːfərˈtàːns ]) is a Central Limburg dialect spoken in the Dutch town of Montfort in the new municipality of Roerdalen . It is closely related to the dialects of Echt , Sint Joost , Hingen , Peij , Slek and Koningsbosch .
There are three main varieties with rather minor differences:
- Mofertaans (from Aan de Berg and Montfort )
- Pötbrooks (in Echterbosch , Maria-Hoop and Putbroek )
- Räötjes (in Reutje ) It is often seen together with the dialect of Sint Odiliënberg .
The “Mofers Dictionary” ( Stichting Mofers Waordebook ) documents the language and supported the publication of a dictionary with the Mofers grammar.
