Mohill ( Irish : Maothail , also Maothail Manacháin ) is a town in County Leitrim in the north central interior of the Republic of Ireland .

The place

Maothail Manacháin , the Irish name of the place, refers to St. Manachán, who founded a monastery here around 500. The remains of a round tower are still preserved on the site.

Today Mohill as a rural center town is characterized by agriculture, local industry and tourism. Close to Mohill is Lough Rynn Castle, which dates back to the early 19th century and is now a 4-star hotel.

The megaliths of Fenagh (also Feenagh Beg) are of different types and lie between Ballinamore and Mohill.

Location and demographics

Mohill is in the southern part of County Leitrim, about 15 km southeast of Carrick-on-Shannon and 7 km east of the N4 national road , on a slope over the River Rinn.

The population of Mohill was determined in the 2016 census to be 855.
