Moi Rajon ( Russian Мой район ; German  " My District " , see also Rajon # Russia ) is a free newspaper in Saint Petersburg and Moscow ( Russia ).

History and Development

The free weekly advertising paper Moi Rajon was founded by the international Schibsted Media Group , as were other daily papers with the title 20 Minuten . The first issue of Moi Rajon appeared on February 7, 2003. The publisher's strategy was to dominate the local market by distributing the high-circulation newspaper free of charge. According to Schibsted, Moi Rajon's readership was stabilized again in 2010 after a decline in 2009.

In 2008, then editor-in-chief Diana Kachalova said of Moi Rajon: "Unfortunately, many Russian journalists always think about what their superiors and authorities will say about their reports. And because so many media are dependent on the state or the city government, journalists want to avoid that important people get angry or complain. The state power sits in their head. For us, on the other hand, the most important question is: What do our readers think? "

Moi Rajon is currently offered in St. Petersburg in 10 regional editions with a total of 350,000 copies at 1,200 sales outlets. The advertising paper has also been published in Moscow since 2006, currently with a weekly circulation of one million.

The first edition of the glossy supplement Quattro Stagioni appeared on December 7, 2013.

Founding editor and managing director is Gregory Kunis, who also co-founded The St. Petersburg Times in 1993. The editors-in-chief are Vladislav Bachurov and Irina Paramonov.

Detection of Russian internet trolls

In March 2015, Moi Rajon reported on Russia's trolls accused of conducting pro-government propaganda on the Internet . Corresponding documents were available from both Moi Rajon and the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung wrote: "Divided into different departments, they create and share thousands of posts, comments and graphics on blogs and platforms such as Livejournal and Twitter every day. They have thousands of individual social media accounts. And one department is only, for example planned to feed banal and apolitical blogs in the comments with Kremlin propaganda ". In Germany, Bild.de and Focus.de also reported on the activities of the trolls revealed by Moi Rajon.

Website

On February 7, 2009, Moi Rajon launched his news portal MR7.ru. with national content.

In the News & Media category, the Russian search engine Rambler MR7.ru ranks 302nd out of a total of 4,312 portals. In August 2014 Moi Rajon had 578 617 unique visitors, in July 2015 there were 366 419.
