The Moienmarkt is a folk festival that has been celebrated in the Brandenburg town of Schlieben since 1593. The events take place on the weekend before the first Monday in July. With several thousand visitors, it is one of the largest folk festivals in the area.

history

The first references to the market can be found for the year 1593. The Moienmarkt was also called Johannismarkt because it took place annually on St. John's Day. The term Moie means girl or maid.

At the Moien election that takes place at the festival, girls have to prove their skills in the house and yard. A jury then selects the best for Moie of the year.
