Moissei Markovich Kharitonov ( Russian Моисей Маркович Харитонов ; born February 17 ^{. Jul} / 1. March  1887 ^greg. In Nikolayev , Kherson Gubernia , Russian Empire , † 1948 ) was a Soviet politician.

Life

Kharitonov became a member of the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party in 1905 . In 1912 he was registered in Zurich as a law student and head of the party group in exile there. In 1915 he took part in the Bern conference of the party's foreign sections.

From autumn 1915 he had contact with Vladimir Ilyich Lenin , with whom he returned to Russia in April 1917 . He became government secretary of the Communist Party and in 1923 a member of the Central Committee. From 1925 he went into opposition to Josef Stalin , in 1927 and again in 1935 he was expelled from the party.

Kharitonov fell victim to the Stalinist terror . After a long imprisonment, he died in a penal camp in 1948.
