Mokum Records is a Dutch record label that mainly released releases from the genres of gabber and hardcore techno .

history

The name of the label, founded in 1993 by Fred Berkhout (Freddy B), goes back to the Yiddish word מקום meaning city . Mokum is a nickname for downtown Amsterdam and the label's founder alluded to the hardcore label Rotterdam Records, also named after a city .

Mokum has released publications by Party Animals , Technohead , Chosen Few , Tellurian , The Salami Brothers , DJ Fistfuck , DJ Dano & Liza 'N' Eliaz , The Speed ​​Freak , Search & Destroy , Rob Gee & Ralphie Dee and Omar Santana .

The label's greatest success was the technohead single I Wanna Be A Hippy , which reached chart placements across Europe in 1995, including number 1 in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.

After the parent label Roadrunner Records withdrew increasingly from the vinyl market at the end of the 1990s, no more publications appeared on Mokum. In 2004, Freddy B decided to revive the label as an independent company. First release in 2004 was Despairful Tomorrows single And Hell Followed (MOK 100).

Mokum Records was one of the first Gabber label with the slogan "United Gabbers Against Racism And Fascism" (United Gabbers against racism and fascism ) and publications like Chosen Anthem (Against Racism) Project Chosen Few racism in the scene a clear rejection granted.
