The Mollnhof in Passau

The Mollnhof (also Molnhof ) is a former country seat in Passau .

history

The original Mollnhof, built around 1560, was the country house of the prince-bishop's keeper Wolfgang Friedrich Moll. At that time it was located in the Waldgütleramt belonging to the Passau bishopric . Its builder was probably the Italian architect Bernardino. Elector Max Emanuel of Bavaria set up his headquarters there in 1704 during the siege of Passau during the War of the Spanish Succession . Today, Max-Emanuel-Strasse, west of Mollnhof in the industrial park of the same name, is a reminder of this. As can be seen from the first photo from 1827, this farm - registered there as Molnbauer - was located to the east and not to the west of Vornholzstrasse as it is today. The original manor was destroyed by flames in 1831 . The high fire insurance amount paid out of 5,000  florins suggests that the building has been completely destroyed. Immediately after the fire by 1835 at the latest, the building stock was rebuilt on the opposite side of the street.

In 1953 the buildings were acquired by the city of Passau, which wanted to set up an animal sanctuary there, but sold it to church property in 1963. Between 1970 and 1978 all of the outbuildings were demolished. A demolition of the manor house could be prevented, but not further deterioration.

Between 1989 and 1995 the facade was repaired in sections, and in 1999 the building was extensively renovated; the stucco windows , balustrades and cornices were reconstructed. The Mollnhof then served as a representative office building for a construction company.

In March 2016 the house was sold to a group of tax advisors.
