Momo ( Nepalese : म: म: ; tibetanisch : མོག་ མོག་ ) is a Nepal and Tibetan pastry , particularly in the region of the Himalaya is prepared. Momos are similar to German Maultaschen , Italian ravioli , Chinese Jiaozi or Russian pelmeni .

The Tibetan word momo comes from the Chinese mómo ( 馍 馍 ).

Production and ingredients

Momos are made from a pasta dough made from flour and water. Round pieces of dough are then shaped into dumplings with different fillings. In addition to vegetarian fillings, meat fillings made from goat, chicken or pork are particularly popular in Nepal, Tibet and northeastern India. For cooking, the dumplings are steam cooked and typically served with tomato soup or broth.
