momondo is a free travel search engine that is available in over 35 countries worldwide and enables its users to compare millions of prices for flights, hotels and rental cars. After the successful market launch in Germany in 2008, the website was also launched in Austria and Switzerland in 2014.

momondo does not sell anything; instead, it provides an overview of all prices available at that time and redirects users to partner websites in order to end the booking process there.

In addition to search engine technology, momondo also provides travel tips and inspirational content via the blog.

history

momondo was founded in Denmark in 2006 and is headquartered in Copenhagen. As of 2016, the company has more than 200 employees with over 40 nationalities.

When it was founded in September 2006, momondo was a pure flight search engine. In October 2007, the site was relaunched to include the inspiration page, a travel blog. In 2009, the company launched a series of travel guides that later became the momondo places app. Since then momondo has also had search engines for hotels and rental cars.

In April 2011 momondo and Skygate, the parent company at the time, were taken over by the British-American travel search engine Cheapflights Media Ltd (now Momondo Group Ltd); However, momondo continues to operate as an independent subsidiary.

In 2014, the Momondo Group sold a large part of its shares in the American private equity fund Great Hill Partners.

In May 2016 it was reported that Momondo Group had sales of $ 30 million in the first quarter and that 60% of sales came from momondo.

On February 8, 2017, it was announced that Momondo would be acquired by The Priceline Group for $ 550 million .

Awards

In 2010 Travel + Leisure named momondo the best travel website for finding low cost airfares.

Frommer's voted momondo first in the travel guide list “The 10 best flight price search engines”.

Momondo was named the best meta search engine at the Travolution Awards in 2014 and 2015.

momondo has already been featured in various media around the world: in a feature on the topic of "Top Travel Sites to Plan Your Next Adventure" in Forbes magazine, momondo was named "one of the best travel sites for finding travel deals with the most intuitive meta search engine" and The New York Times praised the site for its ability to "find flight combinations that can't be found anywhere else."
