Mondberg ( Chinese 月亮 山 , pinyin : Yuèliàng Shān; literally: "Moonlight Mountain" ) is a mountain with a rock gate , a few kilometers outside of Yangshuo in the autonomous region of Guangxi in southern China .

It takes about 20 minutes to climb the rock gate . Visitors must pay admission to gain entry. Souvenir and drink sellers are visible as you climb down.

geography

It is around 380 meters above sea level, 410 meters long and 220 meters wide. There is an open space at the top that looks like a moon. This is 50 meters high and 50 meters wide. For this reason it is also called Minguyue Mountain or Mondberg. 804 steps lead to the summit.

Climbing ban

In the first half of 2017, a climbing ban came into force that almost completely forbade sports climbing on the mountain. The trigger for this was falling debris, which almost hit a security guard on a viewing platform. The climbing ban was lifted again under certain conditions at the end of 2019. The requirements provide for an annual inspection of the climbing routes, financed by the sale of climbing insurance, which is mandatory for sport climbers.
