More than 80% of the fabrics produced are exported to over 60 countries worldwide.

Geographical location

Mondi Frantschach is located in Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud in Carinthia / Austria . It is connected to the Lavant Valley Railway and the Packer federal road B70 .

Technical overview

Mondi Frantschach GmbH is divided into two large plant areas: the pulp mill and the paper mill.

Pulp mill

Two lye incineration boilers and a bark boiler are operated. The pulp is produced in a specially designed cooking facility . This is then dried, pressed and packaged. Parts of it go on to the paper mill to be processed into paper there. Approximately 55,000 tons of unbleached pulp are produced every year.

Paper mill

Three paper machines (PM6, PM7 and PM8) are currently in use in the paper mill, producing 240,000 tons of sackcloth and 22,000 tons of kraft paper annually.

Historical

The tradition of the work is very old, it was mentioned as early as the 16th century. The pulp factory was founded in 1881/1882 by Hugo Henckel von Donnersmarck . The first paper machine was put into operation in 1894. The plant was operated by Frantschach AG, the largest Austrian packaging manufacturer, which was completely taken over in 2004 by Anglo American (then majority owner of Mondi).
