Money, Money , along with Welcome , and Mein Herr, is a famous musical number from the 1972 film Cabaret by Bob Fosse . The music is by John Kander and the lyrics by Fred Ebb . The song was introduced in the film by Liza Minnelli in the role of Sally and Joel Gray as Emcee in the form of a variety or cabaret number with show and dance performances in the ambience of a night club .

The song was not yet included in the musical version of Cabaret from 1966, it was created for the film. Today, however, due to its popularity, it is included in current performances of the musical. The text of the song refers to the time after the German inflation and the global economic crisis of the years after 1929 and describes in a simplified and strongly caricatured way the role of international money in the economy. Several lines of text at the end refer to poverty, hunger and the mendacious consolation of a “fat pastor”. The song has four stanzas, between which the refrain Money makes the world go around…. sounds.

The music is written in E flat major and the parallel key in C minor. As a tempo, John Kander sets a moderately bright (moderately bright ). The piece has the pace of a foxtrot and lasts a good three minutes. The music imitates the angular style in Berlin in the late twenties and uses an instrumentation that consists of brass instruments such as trombone or tuba, accordion, a prepared piano and drums.
