Germino spent her childhood in Virginia, USA. She studied at the Yale Conservatory and the New England Conservatory . In 1993 she received a scholarship to study music in the Netherlands, where she has lived since.

Monica Germino has performed at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (UK), the Bang on a Can Marathon (NY) at the University of South Florida (USF), the New York Austrian Cultural Forum and the Walt Disney Concert Hall .

Germino cooperates with the sound artist ("electronic sound designer") Frank van der Weij . Both have commissioned new works for violin and electronic sounds, such as: B. by Julia Wolfe , Donnacha Dennehy , David Dramm, Arnoud Noordegraaf, Heiner Goebbels, Catherine Kontz, and Nick Williams.

Germino ordered a Violectra (electric violin) in 2003 . Several composers have written works for Germino and their Violectra, such as Robert Zuidam's new Requiem (2013), Renske Vrolijks “Violectra Concert” (2012) and David Dramm's “Fuzzbox Logic” (2010). Germino also performs with her group ELECTRA and with the Ensemble Electric Barbarian.

Germino works regularly with the Dutch composer Louis Andriessen and the singer Cristina Zavalloni . In 2011 Andriessen composed a violin concerto for her entitled “La Girò”. In 2002 Andriessen wrote “La Passione”, a double concerto for Zavalloni and Germino. In 2009 the Boston Modern Orchestra Project released a CD with Andriessen's compositions entitled “La Passione”. Germino's performance of John Cage's Six Melodies also plays an inspiring role in Andriessen's opera “Writing to Vermeer”.

Germino plays a Joannes Baptista Ceruti violin on loan from the Elise Mathilde Foundation. It is also unusual that Germino sings and plays the violin simultaneously, sometimes with the round arch .
