Monika Iwersen

Monika Iwersen (* 1963 in Rendsburg ) is a German diplomat . She has been the ambassador to Kyrgyzstan since the end of 2017 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Monika Iwersen studied from 1982 to 1988 at the universities in Mainz and Geneva as well as at the Institute of International Studies in Monterey / USA.

career

In 1989 Iwersen began training for the higher foreign service, which she finished in 1991. From 1991 to 1992 she worked as a consultant in the department for Poland and the Baltic States at the Foreign Office in Berlin and then went to the Consulate General in Istanbul as a press and protocol officer, where she stayed until 1995.

After positions in the department for the United Nations Security Council in the Foreign Office in Berlin (1995–1998) and as permanent representative at the embassy in La Paz (1998–2001), Monika Iwersen switched to the permanent representation of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2001 as counselor United Nations in New York. In 2004 she returned to the Foreign Office in Berlin and became deputy head of the department for relations with Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria before she was permanent representative at the Algiers embassy from 2008 to 2011. This was again followed by a period in Berlin from 2011 to 2014, this time as head of the unit for relations with Turkey and the EFTA countries.

After serving as an envoy at the embassy in Tel Aviv, she was transferred as an ambassador to the embassy in Bishkek , Kyrgyzstan , in 2017 . On March 30, 2018, she was received by President Sooronbai Dscheenbekow to hand over her credentials.
