Monitor (magazine)

Monitor was a literary and political weekly that appeared in Warsaw from 1765 to 1785 and is considered the most important organ of the Enlightenment in Poland. She promoted the development of Polish literature and supported the country's economic, social and political reform efforts, also by criticizing Sarmatism and conveying progressive ideas from Western Europe.

The magazine was founded with the support of King Stanislaus II August Poniatowski . The editors were in turn Ignacy Krasicki , Franciszek Bohomolec , Józef Minasowicz , Lorenz Christoph Mizler and JI Boelcke.

In addition to the named editors, the monitor published A. Works by Jacek Jezierski , Hugo Kołłątaj and Stanisław Staszic . The magazine was based on English periodicals, especially the Spectator , from which many articles were translated or edited.
