Monocarboxylic acids

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Monocarboxylic acids are chemical compounds that have only one carboxy group  (–COOH) in the molecule. Compounds with several carboxy groups are correspondingly referred to as di- or tricarboxylic acids . Monocarboxylic acids with different structures are presented under carboxylic acids . The monocarboxylic acids also include the fatty acids . A table of the shorter saturated and unsaturated (unbranched) monocarboxylic acids can be found in the article Fatty Acids .
