monochrome or monochromatic (Greek for 'one color') refers to:

  • For light emission in a very narrow frequency or wavelength range, see monochromatic light
  • a perception reduced to only one color receptor, see monochromatic
  • Tone-on-tone painting, painting in only one color direction, see monochrome painting
  • generally an image or photograph that only shows gray levels or shades of a single color, see black and white
