Monroe Golden

Monroe Golden is an American composer.

Golden studied composition at the University of Montevallo and the University of Illinois with James A. Jensen , Ed Robertson , Ben Johnston , Sever Tipei , Aurel Stroé and Herbert Brün . He lives in Birmingham / Alabama , where he organized the Birmingham International Improvisation Festival in 1998 and founded the New Arts Stage at Birmingham's City Stages , which he directed from 1999 to 2004. He founded the Birmingham Art Association and the ARTBURST Performance Series at the city's Unitarian Universalist Church . He was also a founding member of the Birmingham Art Music Alliance , of which he was president from 2003 to 2005. In 2006 he was awarded the Alabama Music Teachers Association Prize and a fellowship from the Alabama State Council on the Arts .
