Mont-Royal is a subway station in Montreal . It is located in the Le Plateau-Mont-Royal arrondissement at the intersection of Rue Berri and Avenue du Mont-Royal. Trains on orange line 2 run here . In 2006, 4,305,252 passengers used the station, which is 17th place out of a total of 68 stations on Metro Montreal .

Building

Entrance pavilion

The station designed by Victor Prus was created as a tunnel station and has a relatively sober design. An escalator leads from the bridge-like distribution level to the only exit. This is located on the surface in a steel and concrete pavilion . The walls are covered with brown bricks of various shades. This pattern is broken up by 32 “seams” made of cast aluminum, from which cube-shaped and bar-shaped elements protrude. A design flaw is the lack of ventilation, so that the compressed air flow generated by the incoming trains is above average.

The platform level with two side platforms is 13.4 meters deep . The distances to the neighboring stations, measured from station end to station start, are 932.10 meters to Sherbrooke and 499.60 meters to Laurier . There are connections to three bus routes and two night bus routes operated by the Société de transport de Montréal .

art

The building behind the entrance pavilion was artistically designed in 2000 as part of an upgrade program. The artist group Les industries perdus inserted the poem Tango de Montréal by Gérald Godin into its facade using bricks . It's about the immigrants who take the metro to work in the morning and keep the city going.

history

The station opened on October 14, 1966, along with the Place-d'Armes - Henri-Bourassa section of the orange line. Mont-Royal is part of the basic network of the Montreal Metro. It is named after the Avenue du Mont-Royal. This leads to the Parc du Mont-Royal and Montreal's local mountain, Mont Royal , which towers over the city center of Montreal.
