art

The station area is rather unadorned, apart from the wall panels made of corrugated stainless steel. In contrast, the connecting tunnel in the direction of the Place-des-Arts metro station is artistically designed. In 2002/03, Christian Kiopini designed the walls with plywood, glass and acrylic. These are three areas that are related to each other through their colors and the geological formation they are reminiscent of. Chambre secrète ("secret chamber") at the western end includes the door to the vault of a former bank. The light from the middle work Contreforts (“Vorgebirge”) reflects on it . In the middle of a rotunda are rayons , the lines of which converge to form a cone that points to an imaginary point on the surface.

history

The station opened on October 14, 1966, together with the section towards Henri-Bourassa . Place-d'Armes is part of the metro network and was the terminus of the orange line for a few months. This was extended on February 6, 1967 southwest to Square Victoria OACI, a week later to Bonaventure . The station is named after the Place d'Armes , around 250 meters southeast , the former Montreal parade ground.
