List of rose varieties |
The floribunda rose Montana , syn. 'Royal Occasion' is a floribunda rose and reaches a height of about 90 centimeters. It is not named after the US state, not even after the fashion designer Claude Montana , who had his first fashion show only in 1976. Lt. welt-der-rosen.de Montana is a song that Frank Zappa sang for the first time a year before the rose was introduced on the album Over-Nite Sensation. The bright red, up to 7 cm large flowers are half-filled and have a light scent. They appear in clusters of 5 to 25. 'Montana' blooms several times a year and is very popular with amateur gardeners because it is insensitive and very robust against powdery mildew and blackened soot. It is frost hardy to −29 ° C ( USDA zone 5). The growth is rather compact, so that the floribunda is also suitable for smaller beds.
'Montana' was founded by Mathias Tantau jun. crossed from 'Waltz Dream' × 'Europeana' and introduced in 1974. The 'Ballade' variety, introduced in 1991, is, according to the breeder, a pink sport of the 'Montana' variety.
