Montblanc affair
The exposure of the excessively expensive purchases made by over a hundred members of the Bundestag is described as the Montblanc affair . The name came about after it became known that 116 members of the Bundestag had bought luxury writing instruments from Montblanc for 68,000 euros in 2009 . In response to the event, the Council of Elders decided in 2010 that MPs would no longer be allowed to buy “luxury writing implements” from the estimated flat-rate office expenses.
In August 2016, the Bild newspaper published a list with the names of 90 MPs. Among them are Norbert Lammert , Otto Fricke , Willy Wimmer and Ronald Pofalla . There had been a dispute with the Bundestag about the publication for a long time. In the preliminary legal protection proceedings (file number OVG 6 S 23.16), the Higher Administrative Court of Berlin-Brandenburg decided on October 11, 2016 that the Bundestag was obliged to issue a complete list with the names of the members of the Bundestag, which it subsequently complied with.
