The Montevideo is a skyscraper in Rotterdam . With a structural height of 140 meters, it is the second tallest residential building in the Netherlands. If you add the "M" on the roof, it is the tallest building in the country at 152.3 meters.

The Montevideo is part of the Kop van Zuid urban renewal program and is an eye-catcher opposite the city center on the Nieuwe Maas , next to the Art Nouveau building of the Hotel New York and in an area that is historically shaped by the Holland-America Line . It is named after a warehouse of the same name that once stood on the site, which in turn was named after Uruguay's capital, Montevideo . The design is based on classic New York skyscrapers, including a water tank on the roof. Materials are alternating between steel and concrete, which, according to the architects, symbolize the USA (steel) and the Netherlands (concrete). The 8 × 8 × 1 meter "M", the symbol of the house, is also used as a weather vane.

The building, which opened in 2005, was designed by the Dutch architect Francine Houben from the Mecanoo company . It houses 192 apartments, 6050 m² of office space and 1933 m² for retail. The Highrise Award mentioned it with praise, and it won third place at the Emporis Skyscraper Award 2005.
