The Monumento al Mar is a monument in San Salvador designed by the Spanish sculptor Benjamin Saúl (1924–1980) .

The sculpture with fountain is located in the city of San Salvador on "25 Avenida Norte" and "21 Calle Poniente" on the Redondel de La Fuente Luminosa .
history
The monument to the sea is popularly known as La Fuente Luminosa (source of light) because of its nightly illuminations (red, green, blue) . The fountain was built by the UQUXKAH group in 1970 in honor of the Spanish sculptor Benjamin Saúl. The sculpture in the center of the complex was created by Benjamin Saúl.
UQUXKAH group
At that time, the group consisted of former students from the art academy, where the sculptor Saúl taught as a professor. The following were involved in the work: Andrés Castillo, René Chacón , Mauricio Jiménez Larios, Osmín Muñoz, Dagoberto Reyes, Alberto Cerritos and Carlos Velis.
Benjamin Saúl, born in Monforte de Lemos , Galicia, died in San Salvador in 1980 . His significant production of sculptures, reliefs and drawings is part of the collection of the Museo de Arte Moderno in Madrid and the Museum of American Art in Mexico as well as in other private collections a. a. in Central America, USA, India, Spain.
