René Chacón

Oscar René Chacón (born October 31, 1960 in La Palma , El Salvador , † February 8, 2016 in Ingolstadt ) was an artist living mainly in Ingolstadt .

Life

As a teenager in the 1970s, Chacón was involved in building Fernando Llorts first handicrafts cooperative "La Semilla de Dios" in La Palma. Subsequently, numerous studios for the now exported, typical handicrafts were built throughout the village. In 1976 he attended the OAS Arts and Crafts Congress in Cuenca , Ecuador . In 1979/80, a scholarship enabled him to study classical painting and picture restoration at the Istituto per l'Arte e il Restauro in Florence . Study visits took him to Ingolstadt and Munich in 1980/81 (from Shrove Monday, February 18, including internship as a restorer at the Stadtmuseum Ingolstadt ) and in 1982 to Seville , where he worked as an intern in a ceramics workshop.

From 1983 René Chacón lived and worked in Ingolstadt. There he founded various artist initiatives, such as the artist association Art Experiment e. V. (1986). From 1996 to 2009 he taught at the art school he founded in Ingolstadt, “Art in Motion” and “Free Academy - René Chacón”. In 2011 he founded the “AGAFA” (“Atelier-Gallery-Exhibition-Free Academy”). He also realized temporary art quarters in downtown Ingolstadt. It was always very important to him to unite different genres and artists and to move them in new directions. In his art it was important to him: to express and keep alive his very own power, which drove him to live and work.

Chronically ill, Chacón died in 2016 at the Ingolstadt Clinic .

In addition to painting, Chacón worked as a sculptor, ceramist, installation and performance artist. As motifs for his paintings, he chose among other things spiritual Indian themes and stylized, translucent depictions of women, musicians and animals. In the 1990s, his pictures became more abstract and colorful, photographic elements and pre-Columbian symbols were used. Chacón made spatial installations and sculptures and also worked in the field of land art .

Time and again he worked with musicians, created his own songs, poems and compositions.

Exhibitions (selection)

Chacón presented u. a. in Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, El Salvador and Guatemala.

At the state horticultural show in Ingolstadt in 1992, he and Fernando de la Jara showed the contribution “Pachamama - Mother Earth”, pyramid. In 1993, 1995, 1997 and 2001 he took part in the Venice Biennale. From 2002 onwards, several contributions to the worldwide " Buddy Bears " campaign from Berlin followed.
