Fernando de la Jara

Fernando de la Jara (* 1948 in Lima , Peru ) is an artist who has lived in Germany since 1987.

Life

At the age of 17 he was commissioned by the Jesuits in his hometown to make a fresco for a church. In 1968 he made studies in the studio of the Spanish painter Manuel Viola (Grupo El Paso). In 1971/72 he went on a study trip to Europe to deal with Flemish and Venetian painting. From 1973 to 1977 he lived in the mountains of his homeland. In this self-chosen exile with the Andean Indians , he wanted to work independently of the art galleries and the constraints of the market for at least a while.

In 1982 he founded the “Julieta” cinematheque in Lima. In the same year he won first prize at the national painting competition in Ancón, Peru.

From 1984 to 1986 he lived and painted in New York City . In 1987 he came to Germany when he was offered a research assignment at the Catholic University of Eichstätt . He works and lives in Germany and Peru.

His works - mostly large-format oil paintings or composed of individual images, also frescoes, sculptures, installations and projects, and finally lithographs and drawings - are in private collections and in public spaces at home and abroad. His pictures were and are shown in large international galleries as well as in solo and group exhibitions. In 2006 he received a scholarship from the Swiss Foundation Dr. for the mythical music theater Oraculum Mundi composed by EL Raphael . Robert and Lina Thyll-Dürr. He created the stage sets for the 16 musical scenes of the Oraculum Mundi .

Fernando de la Jara is self-taught . He paints his surreal-looking, narrative pictures in a classically realistic manner. Images of man are an important field of his work.

Sculptures in public spaces in Germany are

  • Minerva , 1999, a granite sculpture in front of the Max Planck House at the Hofgarten in Munich , granite "Cape Green", height 6 meters;
  • Pi Chacán , 2001, a marble sculpture in front of the university clinic in Tübingen , red Verona marble , 32 tons.
