MoonShell is a media player for the Nintendo DS . It is probably the best-known DS homebrew project, and also one of the few programs with which videos ( DPG / DPG2) can be played on the console.

MoonShell currently supports the following file formats: DPG video files, MP3 / OGG / MOD / SPC / MDX (no PCM ) / GBS / HES / NSF / XM / MIDI / WMA / low bit rate AAC audio / Free Lossless Audio Codec ( flac ) files / JPEG / BMP / GIF / PNG images, and text files .

MoonShell plays 4: 3 videos at 20fps and widescreen videos at 24fps. Both types of video can have a stereo soundtrack (32,768 kHz). A plug-in system is integrated in MoonShell 1.71 and earlier versions, which enables simple expansion to include new file formats. This feature is currently missing in MoonShell 2.0. MoonShell 2.0 has a completely redesigned interface with new controls (including a lot more touchscreen support) and even multitasking: It is possible to read text while listening to music, and you can play pictures and music at the same time.

In the meantime, MoonShell is already so well known that it is even supplied as a standard media player for various DS flashcards such as N-Card, R4 DS, EDGE, CycloDS, AceCard, M3 DS Simply, EZFlash V Flash Card, or SuperCard (DS). With the Flashcard M3 Real, the program is supplied in a modified version under the name "DSM Player".

What's new in MoonShell 2.00

Videos

The video player has been heavily redesigned. Instead of streaming the video directly from the file (as was the case in MoonShell 1.71), the video player now uses a video buffer. This not only accelerates the jumping through the videos significantly, it can also play better quality videos (higher bit rates in audio and video tracks, dpg 2 ) smoothly.

Audio

Since MoonShell 2.0, MPEG-4 AAC audio files and WMA files have been fully supported, and since version 2.10 (the official final version), the FLAC format has also been supported.

user interface

MoonShell 2.0 has a new, more user-friendly interface. The game length and file size (partly in megabytes ) are now also displayed for files .
