Moon Records
Moon Records was an American record label founded and run by rockabilly musician Cordell Jackson .
history
Founder Cordell Jackson moved to Memphis , Tennessee in 1945 , where she bought recording equipment from the company "Kabakoff Radio & Appliance" in 1947, which she initially only used for private use. She also made her own demo recordings at Sam Phillips ' recording studio, the Memphis Recording Service .
In 1956 she founded her own label Moon Records on advice from Chet Atkins . The small company's first release was a record by Jackson himself - titled Rock and Roll Christmas and Beboppers' Christmas . It was not until 1957 that other publications were sold by other artists, including Johnny Tate , Barney Burcham and Allen Page , who made up most of the Moon publications. Over the next four years, Jackson took on rockabilly, rock 'n' roll , and country musiciansin her own small studio and released these recordings in small numbers. The label never had a national hit and was active until around 1960. Jackson had sold their recording equipment to Stan Kesler for his new studio a year earlier . Other artists on Moon were Joe Wallace, Earl Patterson (not to be confused with Earl Peterson ), Arno Pace and the Big Four.
In 1981 Moon Records released an LP with rockabilly and rock 'n' roll recordings of the label in the USA. By 1983 Jackson released EPs with the old recordings from the 1950s under her label. Jackson is considered a manager, producer and A&R - if only to a small extent - as one of the earliest working women in the music industry. She died in 2004.
