The Morency Island is an island of about 1.5 km in length in front of the Black Coast of Palmer Lands south of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located west of Steele Island and around 15 km northwest of Cape Bryant .
It was discovered by scientists from East Base on the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-1941), who carried out explorations of the area in 1940 on land and by air. The island is named after Anthony Joseph Leo Morency (1908-2001), tractor driver on the East Base .
