Mortuus is a Swedish black / death metal band.

history

Mortuus recorded the 7 ”single Silence Sang the Praise of Death , released in 2005 by The Ajna Offensive . The musicians dissolved the project after the recording; however, when they tried to express themselves again through this medium, they reanimated Mortuus. This was followed by the album De contemplanda morte (De reverencie laboribus ac adorationis), also released by The Ajna Offensive in 2007 .

style

The band's single includes a description of Mortuus as "the primitive expression". One member of the band said that Mortuus was really primitive musically, not for lack of knowledge or technique, but because they liked it. The texts and the ideas expressed about them are often very complex, but are channeled through a very primitive but effective medium. According to the band, there are numerous differences between the EP and the album, but the essence and atmosphere are the same. The band's style combines the “incomparably oppressive atmosphere of Black Metal, sinister sounds and deeply occult and nihilistic lyrical themes” mostly with “slow pace, long chords and echoing growls ” that are reminiscent of Death Metal and Doom Metal .

ideology

An inverted pentagram can be seen on the cover of the single ; the musicians saw the symbol as representative of their belief, which was devil worship . However, one of the musicians later stated that he no longer needed any -isms ; there was no change of religion, it was about a different perspective towards the supreme deity. The band worship death and strive to die in the god of death; there is no single symbol that can adequately represent their God. De contemplanda morte (De reverencie laboribus ac adorationis) is a concept album dealing with the ascension from the depths of the Qlīpōt to the heart of death.

The musicians did not use pseudonyms, as they did not want to see names on their publications and were not interested in a high status in the scene. However, they did print photographs of themselves, according to their own statement, in order to avoid speculation about their identities and because a "semi-anonymous" project would be less interesting for discussion than a completely anonymous one.
