Dublin mosque

The mosque Dublin ( English Dublin Mosque , Irish Mosc Átha Cliath ) is located on the South Circular Road in the Irish capital Dublin . It is currently the headquarters of the Islamic Foundation of Ireland .

Origin of the community

In the early 1970s, when there was no mosque in Dublin, Muslim students began contacting their relatives, as well as Islamic organizations in the UK and some Islamic countries, with the intention of raising money for the establishment of a mosque in Dublin. A four-story house was purchased in 1974 and the first mosque and Islamic Center opened in 1976. A few years after it was founded, the mosque became too small to accommodate the growing number of believers.

The building

The former Presbyterian church was built in the 1860s in the style of a 13th century English church. In 1983 the building was bought by the Islamic Foundation of Ireland and converted into a mosque.
