Moses Ali

Moses Ali (born April 5, 1939 in Meliaderi , Adjumani District ) is a Ugandan politician . He is currently Minister for Disaster Prevention and Refugees and Second Deputy Prime Minister under the government of Yoweri Museveni .

After graduating from Old Kampala Senior Secondary School, Ali began military training. In 1969 he was promoted to major and became the commandant of the Ugandan parachute school. From 1972 he studied military science at Staff College Camberley in Great Britain.

In 1973, Ali was appointed Minister of Provincial Administration under the Idi Amin's government and was promoted to Brigadier General in 1974. In 1981, during the reign of Milton Obote , Ali was the leader of the Uganda National Rescue Front , which was formed in the West Nile Province and was directed against Obote.

Under Museveni, Ali became Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities from July 1986 and then Minister for Youth, Culture and Sport. In April 1990, he was arrested for treason for illegally possessing weapons and ammunition and for training fighters abroad. He was detained for a total of 26 months before he was acquitted in 1992.
