The Moscow Diameter Lines ( Russian : Московские центральные диаметры (МЦД) / Moskowskije Zentralnyje diametry - MCD) are a S-Bahn network of public transport in Moscow and its surrounding area. These are trains that run on track with 1520 mm - track run.

history

The first two diameter lines, MCD 1 and MCD 2, were opened on November 21, 2019 by Russian President Vladimir Putin .

planning

A total of five diameter lines are planned. In addition to the two lines opened in 2019, three more are under construction and planning. The aim for the entire project is to expand and partially build 160 km of new railway lines , 200 km of overhead lines , seven bridges and tunnels, 21 pedestrian overpasses or underpasses and 39 platforms .

traffic

The two lines opened in 2019 largely use existing railway infrastructure . Local trains were already running on these connections before the opening of the diameter lines.

All lines cross the Small Moscow Railway Ring on both sides , on which a S-Bahn operates as a ring line (Московское центральное кольцо, Moskowskoje Zentralnoje kolzo - МЦК / MZK), and the Large Ring Line of the Moscow Metro (Line 11 A). 19 transfer stations are planned with the Moscow metro, and 27 in the long term.
