history

In 1958, under the later chief conductor Kirill Petrovich Kondraschin , the orchestra accompanied the US pianist Van Cliburn at the 1st Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow , whose victory in this competition also caused an international sensation as a signal of the thaw . In 1960 the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra became the first Soviet orchestra to tour the United States. Under the long-time musical director Kondrashin, the orchestra performed Shostakovich's fourth and thirteenth symphonies as premieres, along with many other works . On a tour through Japan in April 1967 under Kondrashin, recordings were made that a Japanese radio station later published as CDs on the Altus label .
