The Moscow Technical University of Telecommunications and Computer Science ( Russian Московский технический университет связи и информатики ) is a Russian university. It was founded in Moscow in 1921 as the Podbelski Institute and has had the status of a technical university since 1992. From 1946 to 1988 the university was named "Moscow Electrotechnical Institute for Telecommunications" ( Russian Московский электротехнический институт связи ). The number of students is around 15,000. The university is a member of the European Society for Engineering Education and has branches in Rostov-on-Don and Nizhny Novgorod . The college was awarded the Order of the Red Labor Banner in 1971. Today it is the largest university in Russia in the field of telecommunications .
