Moskovia Airlines ( Russian Авиакомпания МОСКОВИЯ ) was a Russian airline based in Zhukovsky and based at Moscow Domodedovo Airport .

history

The company was founded in 1995 under the name Gromov Air . In 2006 it received its current name.

From November 2009, Moskovia Airlines temporarily leased two Boeing 737-800s from SAS Scandinavian Airlines .

In February 2014, Moskovia Airlines filed for bankruptcy after an external application was rejected in 2013. However, flight operations continued for a few months. On August 29, 2014, the Russian supervisory authorities finally revoked the company's operating license.

Incidents

  • On May 26, 2008, an Antonov An-12 cargo plane crashed near Chelyabinsk , killing all nine crew members. The cause of the accident was found to be the breakage of a mechanical shaft due to the effects of extreme heat after a fire had broken out in the cargo hold and the pilots tried to return to the airport (see also Moskovia Airlines flight 9675 )
