Dromore Mound

Motte and Bailey von Dromore (or Dromore Mound) is located in Dromore ( Irish Droim Mór ), a small town a little south, between Lisburn and Lurgan in County Down in Northern Ireland . The moth was built by Sir John de Courcy (1160-1219) after the Anglo-Norman conquest in the 13th century .

The system consists of a large, approximately 40.0 m high moth, and a rectangular bailey with about 100 meters long side. Motte and Bailey are a well-preserved example of a cambro-Norman fortification from the Middle Ages (1200–1600 AD). They lie on a hill in a loop of the Lagan river .

The bailey, or lower courtyard, was reportedly protected by a palisade and a wooden tower is said to have stood on the hill. The elevation offers views of the city and the upper Lagan Valley .
