Motu Tapu (also: Lazaretto , Motu Tabu , Motutapa Island ) is a small islet in the north of Tongatapu in the Pacific . Politically, it belongs to the Kingdom of Tonga .
geography
The motu is on the north side of the Piha Passage (Astrolabe Channel) off the north coast of Tongatapu, across from Kolonga . The closest islands are Nuku and Onevao .
climate
The climate is tropical hot, but is tempered by constantly blowing winds. Like the other islands of the Tongatapu Group, Motu Tapu is occasionally hit by cyclones .
