Motzenstein
The Motzenstein is a rock spur near the town of Wattendorf in the Bamberg district .
The approximately 15 meter high dolomite rock is at an altitude of 520 m above sea level. NN , 700 meters southeast of Wattenstein, in a wooded area. The spur is only accessible from the south side, the rock falls in all other directions. It is followed by a 300 m long saddle in the southeast, on which numerous dolomite formations are visible.
From 2003 onwards, research groups from the University of Bamberg in collaboration with scientists from the University of Kiel established a ceramic settlement from approx. 2500 BC on Motzenstein . And excavated a ritual place. Numerous finds were recovered in a rock hole, on the plateau and at the foot of the Motzenstein.
