Mount Bransfield ( French Mont Bransfield ) is a distinctive, conical, icy and 760 m high mountain in Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises 3 km southwest of Cape Dubouzet at the northeast end of the Trinity Peninsula .
The British navigator Edward Bransfield (1785-1852) discovered and mapped it on January 20, 1820. He named the mountain as Mount Wakefield . A detailed mapping was carried out by participants in the Third French Antarctic Expedition (1837-1840) under the direction of polar explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville . D'Urville renamed the mountain after its discoverer.
