The Mount Franklin is a 2,340 m (some sources give even 2327 m at) high mountain in Nelson Lakes National Park in the New Zealand region Tasman . It is the northernmost and highest of the four mountains in New Zealand that are called "Mount Franklin".
The mountain is 15 km south of Lake Rotoroa and is only 2 meters higher than nearby Mount Travers . The mountain is part of the Franklin Ridge , the northernmost part of the St. James Range . This ridge separates the valleys of the eastern and western branches of the Sabine River .
The mountain was named after the geologist Julius von Haast while serving as geologist for the Canterbury Province in honor of Rear Admiral John Franklin , former Governor of Tasmania .
