Mount Furneaux

Mount Furneaux is a prominent, conical and over 800  m high mountain peak on Cook Island in the archipelago of the South Sandwich Islands in the South Atlantic . It rises north-northwest of Mount Holdgate .

The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2013. It is named after Tobias Furneaux (1735–1781), who accompanied the British navigator and explorer James Cook on his second South Sea voyage (1772–1775), first as a lieutenant and later as captain of the HMS Adventure and discovered the South Sandwich Islands.
