Mount Nesos is a 400 m high remnant of a volcano in the southwest of White Island in the Antarctic Ross Archipelago .
Participants in a campaign as part of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition , which ran from 1958 to 1959 , gave it its name, which is derived from the Greek nḗsos for island and thus alludes to the island-like location of the mountain in the middle of the ice sheet on White Island.
