The Mount Overlord is an extinct stratovolcano in Victoria Land in the Antarctic .
The very extensive, 3396 high mountain lies on the border of the Deception Plateau and exactly to the east of the upper end of the Aviator Glacier . Its summit is occupied by a caldera almost 2 km wide . The rocks of the mountain have been dated to an age of approximately 7 million years; the volcano is therefore believed to have been extinct for a long time. Mount Overlord was named by the northern subgroup of a campaign carried out from 1962 to 1963 as part of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition because it "ruled" the other, lower mountains in its vicinity (English overlord - overlord).
