The Mountains of the Moon University , shortly MMU is a university in the city of Fort Portal in Kabarole District in western Uganda . It was registered in 2002 and started operating in 2005. The university is named after the Ruwenzori Mountains .
Organization and range of courses
The MMU is headed by a Vice Chancellor assisted by a Deputy Vice Chancellor; the chancellor has representative and symbolic tasks. The university is divided into five schools :
The MMU offers various bachelor , master , diploma and certificate courses ; there are around 30 programs in total.

The old university campus is in Kabundaire, less than a kilometer from Fort Portal city center. The "School of Education" and the "School of Informatics and Computing" (computer science) are still located there.

The new "Lake Saaka Campus" is about 5 km outside of Fort Portal between two crater lakes. It houses the "School of Business and Management Studies" (economics), "School of Health Science" (health sciences) and the "School of Agricultural Science" (crop science)
