history

The club, which only accepts young male members, was founded in 1898 and is based on the Outer Alster. In addition to Richard Krogmann , who later became an influential and highly respected shipowner, there were four other founding members. At that time, Tilly Krogmann, the mother of the Krogmann sons, suggested the emblems with their color scheme, as they still exist today. Just a few years after their founding (1907), the Alsterpiraten received their own houseboat from generous sponsors from the North German Regatta Association (NRV), above all Sophie Laeisz.

In 1938 the Alsterpiraten disbanded themselves and were formally assigned to the youth department of the NRV and as such also to the Hitler Youth as Marine-HJ Stamm 202 . After 1945 the Alsterpiraten reorganized as the youth department of the NRV. In 1979, the Alsterpiraten were again given the status of a self-governing traditional group within the youth department of the NRV.

In order to be accepted as an Alster pirate, one must complete a candidate period. From the Alster pirate to the head pirate in the Christmas session, if you are 19 years old. The Alsterpiraten are independent, but it is customary for members to join the North German Regatta Club by the age of 20 at the latest .

The female counterpart to the club is the Alsterratten Club, founded in 1929.

Some Alster pirates founded the club on the Alster in Hamburg in 1919 .

The Alsterpiraten Club currently consists of around 20 active (Alsterpiraten) and around 450 senior pirates.
