The North German Regatta Association (NRV) is a sailing club based in Hamburg-Uhlenhorst .

history

The association was founded on November 8, 1868 in the Uhlenhorster Fährhaus in Hamburg and has 2,000 members (as of 2019). This makes it one of the largest sailing clubs in Germany. In 1888, the German Sailing Association was founded on the premises of the club with several other clubs .

The association is committed to promoting young talent and operates it in a specially built youth training center on the Outer Alster. On May 23, 2010, the traditional building on the Outer Alster had to be demolished after a fire. It was replaced by a new building in the same place.

The NRV wants to set up a base in the port of Olpenitz from 2020.

Sporting successes

The NRV is the home club of numerous participants in European and World Championships as well as the Olympic Games. Sun won Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach , Hans Howaldt , Felix Scheder-Bieschin , Eduard Mohr , Fritz Bischoff and Otto wax as an occupying the Germania III at the 1936 Olympic Games bronze in the 8mR class . At the 1960 Summer Olympics , Rolf Mulka and Ingo von Bredow also won bronze in the Flying Dutchman . Even the silver medal is presented in the same boat class in 1968 for Ullrich Libor from the NRV. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Quingdao in a tornado, Johannes Polgar and Florian Spalteholz sailed to an unfortunate eighth place. In the medal race they were in third place overall, but then broke the oar after running over a wooden stake. So they had to give up the medal race.

The North German Regatta Association was a founding member of the German Sailing League in 2013 and won the German Championship in 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2018.

Sporting events

Among other things, the NRV co-founded sailing events such as the Kiel Week and the Travemuender Week and was most recently the host of the HSH Nordbank blue race that it initiated in 2007 . Since 2018, the Helga Cup has been organized exclusively for female sailors , named after a boat from the NRV.
