René Schwall (born January 28, 1971 in Kiel ) is a former German regatta sailor who won an Olympic bronze medal in 2000.

Life

René Schwall, who competed for the Kiel Yacht Club , began his sailing career together with his brother Oliver . The brothers won the bronze medal at the world championships in 1991 in the boat class Tornado . In 1992 the two received silver behind the Australians Mitch Booth and John Forbes , in 1993 they won the title in front of the Australians. In 1994 the brothers received the bronze medal at the European Championships, while Roland Gäbler and Frank Parlow from Hamburg won gold .

From 1997 René Schwall sailed as a bow man with Roland Gäbler. The two won the German championship title three times between 1997 and 1999. From 1998 to 2000 they won three consecutive European championships. At world championships they received gold in 1997, silver in 1998 behind the Australians Darren Bundock and John Forbes and in 1999 bronze behind the Austrian boats of Roman Hagara / Hans-Peter Steinacher and Andreas Hagara / Wolfgang Moser . In 2000, Gäbler and Schwall won their second joint world title. At the Olympic regatta 2000 Roman Hagara and Hans-Peter Steinacher won ahead of the Australians Bundock and Forbes, Gäbler and Schwall received the bronze medal.

René Schwall is a doctor of medicine with his own practice in Altenholz .
