John Forbes competed three times in the Olympic Games in the boat class Tornado . On his Olympic debut in Barcelona in 1992 , he and Mitch Booth immediately won the bronze medal when they finished third behind the French and the US boat with 44.4 points overall. Eight years later , Forbes started in his native Sydney with Darren Bundock and secured the silver medal with him. Their 25 total points were enough for the Austrians Roman Hagara and Hans-Peter Steinacher for second place . In 2004 , Forbes and Bundock took sixth place in Athens with 62 total points.

In 1989 in Houston and 1992 in Perth Forbes became world champions together with Mitch Booth , and they also secured silver in Long Beach in 1993 . Forbes had already won silver with Christopher Cairns in Kiel in 1987 . This was followed by two third places in 1994 in Båstad with Mitch Booth and in 1996 in Brisbane with Datten Bundock, before Forbes and Bundock became world champions four more times in 1998 in Búzios , 2001 in Richards Bay , 2002 in Edgartown and 2003 in Cádiz . The two secured one last medal in 2004 in Palma with bronze.
